Correctional officers stopped a remand inmate from hurting himself at Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre yesterday (April 25).
At around 5.45pm, the 39-year-old male remand inmate, while undergoing reception procedures, suddenly turned emotionally unstable and banged his forehead against a wall. He was immediately stopped and sustained mild swelling over his forehead. He was taken to the centre hospital for medical examination and treatment.
A spokesman for the Correctional Services Department said, "The department uses all possible measures to prevent people in its custody from attempting suicide or self-harm. These measures include administrative arrangements, the improvement of institution facilities, staff training and first aid services."
The remand inmate was charged with the offence of possessing dangerous drugs.
