Correctional officers found a remand inmate hurt himself in Lai Chi Kok Reception Centre today (August 25).
At about 7am, patrolling officers found the 75-year-old male remand inmate sustained head injury and suspected that he had hurt himself.
After initial examination by a medical officer in the centre hospital, the remand inmate was transferred to a public hospital for further medical examination and treatment. He sustained minor abrasion on the head at the time. Clinical psychologist will follow up the case.
A spokesman for the Correctional Services Department said, "The department uses all possible measures to prevent people in its custody from attempting suicide or self-harm. These measures include administrative arrangements, the improvement of institution facilities, staff training and first aid services."
The inmate was on remand for an offence of arson.
