More than 60 students from eight universities participated in diverse community education activities organised by the Correctional Services Department Sports Association (CSDSA) today (October 12) and had friendly matches with the Correctional Services Department (CSD)'s basketball team.
The activities tied in with the department's promotion of a healthy and balanced lifestyle for staff by encouraging them to take part in sports and recreational activities for their well-being during their leisure time. They also aimed at enhancing exchanges between tertiary education students and the department so as to enable the students to further understand the history, vision and development of the CSD, and encouraging them to choose the correctional services as their career after graduation.
Participating in the activities were students from the University of Hong Kong, the Chinese University of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, City University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Baptist University, the Hong Kong Institute of Education and Lingnan University. They visited the Staff Training Institute of CSD and the Hong Kong Correctional Services Museum, attended career talks and competed with the department's basketball team in friendly matches. They learned more about correctional work from different angles and fostered friendship through basketball games.
The CSD Basketball Team Manager, Superintendent Lee Kwok-po, said, "In organising such sports exchanges and activities with tertiary education institutions, the CSDSA can on the one hand strengthen our communication with various institutions, and on the other hand enable tertiary education students to understand the vision and work of the CSD from various perspectives. We encourage them to serve the community by joining the correctional services after graduation."
Mr Lee added, "The CSD is committed to promoting and living up to the concept of achieving a healthy and balanced lifestyle for all staff. In April this year, two CSD staff members, Mr Law Man-kwong and Mr Lee Kiu-fung, were selected to represent Hong Kong as Hong Kong Basketball Team members to attend the 12th National Games. In addition, our Women's Basketball Team member Ms Cheng Wing-shan is also an incumbent member of the Hong Kong Basketball Team. The department will continue to support our staff members to participate in sports activities."
